We’re welcoming another intern into AICREATIVV this year, one of five students from the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) - Darazwaliza Jayan, or as we call her, Liza! An aspiring entrepreneur, she hopes to pick up all the necessary skills to run a business and become a reliable business owner herself!

Hello, Liza!

Liza’s dream of owning her own business began as a bubbling interest. Her first venture into entrepreneurship began in the late months of 2020, with an online business that she ran for 6 months by herself before she got too busy with school. A few years have passed now, yet her interests in this industry have not diminished. She still yearns to open a business of her own, albeit something more concrete and tangible. She was more inspired by people around her who proudly promoted products that they’ve created, and she wanted something of her own that she had created from scratch and is proud to share with the world.

However, more of a planner than a risk-taker, Liza is taking the safe approach, learning as many of the basics in running a business first so she is well-equipped with the necessary skills when she’s ready to launch her brand. Her approach goes hand in hand with her curious nature and her desire to be an all-rounder, someone you can rely on for advice or help.

“I’m the type of person that likes to try a little bit of everything. It’s not bad to focus on one thing, but for me, I don’t have a specific passion or interest, so my mindset is to try everything slowly, little by little.”

Liza’s entry into Business Management at IBTE was her first stepping stone towards her entrepreneurial aspirations, and she has been on a non-stop journey of learning and growth ever since. Now interning at AICREATIVV, she’s excited to get a firsthand look at what it takes to run a business, from the back-end processes to the front-facing strategies.

We asked Liza what she looks forward to during her time here at AICREATIVV.

“I want to improve my English speaking skills, and learn how to create sentences that are not cliché.”

Liza considers Malay as her first language, but she also understands the benefits of being an effective communicator in English. Taking courses in copywriting has helped her to understand the power of being specific and intentional in the way you communicate, whether it’s to a large target audience or an individual. However, these lessons taught her more than ways to effectively sell a product or service; they also gave her the motivation to improve her communication skills with people, so that her conversations with others are more meaningful.

“I want to learn to communicate in a professional way with my co-workers or anyone I’m working with.”

We also encourage Liza and the other interns to speak to many different people, even if doing so is outside of their comfort zone. We understand how difficult it can be to speak up, especially when you’re surrounded by people you aren’t comfortable with or if - like Liza - you’re a shy person in general. But we also value clear and transparent communication, regardless of whether you’re talking to a client or a colleague. So by getting to know the team and observing the way the team operates daily, we hope that Liza can pick up on behaviours that are conducive to a healthy professional environment.

”I’m eager to see how much I’ve improved by the end of this internship.”

As we spend more time with Liza, she’s been lowering her defenses and becoming more open about her interests, asking questions or quietly observing with eager eyes. A month into her internship, she’s been involved in a few different projects, from creative tasks like copywriting, content creation, and film production, to the more internal processes like progress check-ins, post-mortem meetings, and brainstorming sessions.

Liza's Internship Journey Begins

There’s plenty more for Liza to learn, but we’re proud of her for stepping outside of her comfort zone and taking a curious approach to learning. We hope that the rest of her internship will be a fruitful and enlightening journey, one where she can gain the knowledge, resources, and confidence to achieve her dreams.

Let’s make the magic happen together!
