From Secondary School to Cinematography

It always starts somewhere small. For Putra Nazirul, it was a camera in secondary school. The joy of capturing moments—snapping photos, shooting short clips, learning angles without even knowing the theory behind them. That thrill of hitting record and watching something unfold frame by frame was enough to plant the seed.

Fast forward a few years, and that seed has grown into ambition. He’s no longer just experimenting—he’s aiming to be a cinematographer, and one day, a director. You can see it in the way he observes light, in how he frames conversations, in how he quietly rewatches clips until the cuts feel right.

Inspired by Craft, Not Just Content

When asked what sparked this obsession with cinematography, Putra doesn’t talk about Hollywood films or Oscar-winning directors. Instead, he names a Malaysian content creator—Muhammad Shaffuan.

“He makes the camera move like it’s dancing,” he says. “It’s creative. The transitions, the edit—it’s all so smooth. That’s the kind of work I want to do.”

Shaffuan didn’t just impress him. He gave Putra permission to imagine himself behind the lens, calling the shots. And just like that, watching became learning, and learning became doing. With every new project, Putra started chasing smoother movements, tighter edits, bolder gear choices.

Representing Brunei, AICREATIVV, and Himself

When the news came in—you’ve been selected for FLY 2025—Putra didn’t celebrate right away.

“I was shocked,” he admits. “Then happy. Then really moved.”

FLY, a regional programme that brings together emerging creatives from Southeast Asia, had been on his radar for a while. It wasn’t just a cool opportunity; it was the goal he set for himself as an intern. And now, standing on the edge of it, he’s carrying more than just his camera.

He’s representing Brunei. And AICREATIVV. And every shy creative who’s still figuring it out.

What FLY Means to All of Us

When someone from the team gets to experience something big, we all feel it. It’s not just a personal win—it’s a shared one.

Putra’s headed into an international learning space, full of creatives from all over Southeast Asia. And when he comes back, he’s bringing something home.

“I want to share everything I’ve learned,” he tells us. “From how the programme is run, to how they plan shoots, or organize teams. If they do things differently, I want to bring that back too. Whatever knowledge I gather, I’ll share it with the team.”

That’s the kind of mindset that reflects the AICREATIVV spirit. Not just growth—but shared growth.

A Reminder of Why We Do What We Do

Moments like these remind us of something important: AICREATIVV isn’t just a place where people come to work—it’s a place where people come to grow.

Putra joined us as an intern. Now, he’s a representative on an international stage. And he’s just getting started. We’re proud to be part of his journey. And we can’t wait to see what stories he brings back.

From a school camera to FLY 2025—Putra’s story is just beginning.
